What You Can Do With Our Free Photo Editing Software

A focused online photo editor for the change you came to make. Keep your layers, text controls and canvas together, without setting up a desktop application.

01

Keep your layers

Open a PSD and work with its layers and groups. Show, hide, move or remove elements without flattening your whole design.

02

Make the words yours

Edit existing text or add a new text layer. Adjust fonts, size, color, alignment and spacing in the same workspace.

03

Replace an image

Add local images to the asset panel, then drag them onto the canvas or replace an existing image layer.

04

Fine-tune the composition

Move, scale and rotate a selected layer. Adjust image-layer brightness and zoom in to inspect the details.

05

Edit smart objects

Open supported embedded smart objects in their own document tabs and save changes back into the main design.

06

Take your work with you

Choose PNG, JPG or WebP from the image export menu, or save a PSD for continued editing. Download directly to your device.

Less setup. A clearer starting point.

A Simpler Workflow for Everyday Design Changes

For a shop owner updating a product mockup, a freelancer revising a template or a beginner personalizing an invitation, the goal is often one small change. Start with an existing PSD and use the controls that matter for that task.

I just need to change the words on a template.

Open your PSD, select its editable text layer and update the wording, font size or color. Download a PNG when it looks right.

I want to swap a product photo in an existing design.

Add your local image, select the image layer to replace, then adjust its position and size. For supported smart objects, open their document tab to update the contents.

I received a PSD but do not want to install an app.

Open it in this browser workspace, inspect the layers and make the changes you need. Keep the original file and check the result before sharing it.

Here, lightweight means no desktop installation and a focused workflow. Large documents can still use substantial browser memory. For advanced retouching or complex production files, a full editing suite may be the better fit.

How to Edit a Photo Online

Start with a photo or layered design and edit photos online free in the same workspace. Add a caption, adjust a layer and download your composition.

Open the workspace
  1. 01

    Open your photo or design

Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or PSD with Open file. Photos become a single editable layer; GIF uses a static frame. There is no account to create and no file upload to wait for.

  2. 02

    Make it your own

Select a layer, edit its text, replace an image or adjust its position. Your canvas and layer panel stay together.

  3. 03

    Download your work

Choose PNG, JPG or WebP in Export image. Choose Export PSD to keep working with your layered document. JPG uses a white background; PNG and WebP can preserve transparency.

Free Photo Editing Software vs. Desktop Apps

For a text change or an image swap, free photo editing software in your browser can be enough. Desktop tools still have their place for advanced production and the widest PSD compatibility.

A few useful answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for an easy editor without a download, signup or complicated setup? These answers explain where this free photo editing software can help, and where a full editing suite is a better choice.

Is this free photo editing software really free?

+

Yes. The current editor is free to use, with no account, subscription or software download required.

Can I edit JPG or PNG directly, without opening a PSD first?

+

Yes. Choose Open file and select a JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF from your device. A photo opens as one editable image layer; you can add text, add other images, move, scale or rotate layers and export the result. You do not need a PSD template. GIF opens as a static frame, not an animation.

Is there an easy way to edit a PSD without Photoshop?

+

Free Photo Editing provides a focused browser workspace for changing editable text, replacing images and adjusting layers in a PSD. Open your file, select the layer you want to change, then export PNG or PSD. You do not need to install Photoshop or create an account. Complex Photoshop features may render differently.

Can a beginner change the text in a PSD template?

+

Yes, if the template contains an editable text layer. Open the PSD, choose the text layer in Layers or double-click its text on the canvas, then change the wording. You can also adjust font size and color. If the original text was flattened into an image, it cannot be edited as text; add a new text layer instead.

What makes this a lightweight online editor?

+

Lightweight here means less setup and a focused set of controls: open the site, choose a local PSD and work with layers, text and images in one workspace. There is no desktop app installation, signup or file upload step. It is not a claim about memory usage or speed: large PSD files still depend on your device and browser.

Can I replace a photo in a template without rebuilding the design?

+

Yes, when the photo is on a separate image layer or in a supported smart object. Select the target layer and replace its image, then adjust the position and scale. Other layers stay in the document, so you can reuse the surrounding layout.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

+

No. Your local PSD and images are read and edited in this browser tab. You do not upload your design or sign in to use the editor. Exports download directly to your device.

Will my changes still be there if I refresh or close the page?

+

Press Ctrl / ⌘ + S or choose Save state to save your editing session in this browser. The next visit restores your last manually saved documents and undo history. Changes since that save are lost when you refresh or close the tab. There is no automatic saving or cloud backup. Browser storage can be cleared or become unavailable, so use Export PSD or Export image for a separate file backup. Back to overview only moves to the introduction on this page; it does not close your current design.

Do exported images have a watermark?

+

The editor does not add a watermark to PNG, JPG, WebP or PSD exports. Any watermark, logo or text already in your original image or template remains part of that design unless you edit the relevant content. Make sure you have permission to use the source material.

What can I edit right now?

+

Open a regular photo as a single layer, or open a layered PSD. Add text, replace images, move, scale or rotate layers and adjust image-layer brightness. PSD documents also support editing available text layers and supported embedded smart objects.

Which formats can I open and export?

+

Open JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or PSD directly. GIF opens as a static frame, not an animation. Use Export image to choose PNG, JPG or WebP, or Export PSD to save a layered document. JPG fills transparent areas with white; PNG and WebP can preserve transparency.

Why do fonts, shadows or gradients look different from the original PSD?

+

The original font may not be available in your browser, and some Photoshop layer styles, gradients, blend modes and smart objects are not fully supported. When recognized unsupported styles are present, the editor shows a warning and identifies the affected layers. This check does not guarantee that every compatibility issue will be detected. Keep your original PSD; for higher fidelity, open it in Photopea or Photoshop and compare the result before sharing.

What should I do if a large image or PSD will not open?

+

There is no fixed file-size limit, but your browser and device still have memory and canvas limits. Pixel dimensions, layer count and embedded smart objects can matter more than the file size. Keep the original file, close unused tabs and try a smaller copy on a desktop with more memory. If the file still fails, it may use unsupported features or be damaged; try Photopea or Photoshop. Export any other unsaved work before refreshing this tab.

Can I use the editor on a phone, and which browser should I choose?

+

Use an up-to-date browser with JavaScript enabled. The layout adapts to narrow screens and includes a file-selection button, but a desktop or laptop is recommended for detailed layer work and large PSDs. Desktop Chromium and narrow-screen layouts have been checked; not every Safari, Firefox or mobile-device combination has been verified. If opening or exporting fails, keep your original and try a current desktop browser.

When should I use a full desktop editor instead?

+

Choose a full desktop editor when you need advanced retouching, professional color workflows or reliable compatibility with complex Photoshop documents. Free Photo Editing is intended for focused template changes: editable text, image replacement and layer adjustments in your browser.
